COCOA LOCAL Did you know, that on the third day, God created chocolate?
On that day He said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds." And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good (my italics).

Now, if you know the scriptures and you do the math, that was three days before He created man. While He did not create a chocolate tree per se, He did create the cacao tree, and cacao trees produce fruit - which in turn, bear seeds. Man uses cacao seeds to make all things chocolate. So, it therefore stands to reason that God had chocolate in mind when He created the cacao tree. Ergo, He made chocolate for man. The Iraq thing and hurricanes notwithstanding, who says God isn't a loving God?
What then comes to mind when you hear the names Godiva, Ghiradelli, Tobler, Cadbury, See's, Hershey's, Fannie May, Mar's, Russell Stover, or even Willie Wonka. . . your bathroom scale? No silly, it's LOVE, right? What better way to 'share the love' with others during the Holidays, than to bring them the gift of chocolate? Gooood chocolate.
Now - the chocolate snob that I am - says that all of those names above represent some pretty good stuff. BUT. . .do they really represent the best? Nope. Not according to our friends in Europe - particularly the French, English, Swiss and Belgians who have been making 'chocolat' the right way - or the better and pure way - for centuries. No 'stepped -on' cocoa powder but real cocoa liquor, no milk but pure cream, no corn syrup but pure sugar, no margarine but pure butter and certainly not any artificial egg and soy emulsifiers.
Here are a couple of other interesting factoids for you. Chocolate is an American invention. Well, Mesoamerican truth-be-told, i.e. it was the Mayans, Olmecs and Aztecs of the Yucatan Peninsula who first developed the means to make and enjoy chocolate as a drink. The Europeans made chocolate in all its solid iterations, and the European chocolate makers who immigrated to the U.S. settled primarily in the Philadelphia and you guessed it - the Baltimore region.
So, when you are visiting Baltimore and you are looking for the very best European (i.e.French)-style chocolate to share as a gift during the Holidays, there is only one place to find it. That's at CACAO LORENZO CHOCOLATIER in Timonium. And you will know it the instant yours and your friends and families taste buds come into contact with proprietor Larry McGlinchey's creations. Delicate and Sophisticated. No shortcuts - No compromise. Look no further because chocolate really does not get any better than this.
